During this first week, we will be getting to know one another, reviewing the Course Information handout, and doing review of math that you (hopefully) learned in elementary school.

Thank you for an excellent first week!! During our first lesson, we made notes on the characteristics of area and perimeter and on how to "show your work." Below, I have included a copy of those notes. While I will be posting copies of notes presented in class throughout the year, students are still very much encouraged to take notes while in class. Numerous studies have demonstrated that the process of taking notes assists people in learning and remembering what they have learned (see page five of this link).
For students, who would like to get some extra practice working with area and perimeter, I have included some extra practice questions in a document below. When answering these questions, remember to use the proper format when “showing your work.” These practice questions are (for now) optional, but students can expect to consistently have mandatory practice homework starting next week.
